Yeshiva Week 2027: The Definitive Getaway Guide

Yeshiva week is the Orthodox world's answer to December vacation: most yeshivos and Jewish day schools skip the standard winter break and give families a week off in late January instead. There's no universal date — every school sets its own — but the window runs from mid-January into the first week of February, and the last full week of January is always the peak. For 2027, the operators selling trips have effectively drawn the map already: expect the crush roughly January 21 through February 1, 2027, anchored by MLK Day on January 18 and the last full week of the month, January 24-31.

What's unusual this cycle is how early everything went on sale. Fresh Kosher listed 19 cruise sailings for January 2027 by mid-2026. Panama Yeshiva Week 2027 announced firm dates — January 21-31 — with group airfare already locked in. After January 2025 saw a yeshiva week cruise sell out with a waitlist, operators stopped waiting for fall to open bookings, and families stopped waiting to book.

One caveat before any deposit leaves your account: school calendars for 2026-27 haven't been published yet. Confirm your own school's break before you commit to non-refundable dates.

Orlando is the space play. During yeshiva week the theme parks run at roughly a quarter of normal capacity — the December crowds are back in school, and lines that eat an hour in peak season mostly vanish. There's even a minyan — the quorum of ten men needed for communal prayer — organized inside Universal Studios during yeshiva week, listed on Godaven. Miami and South Florida are the opposite bet: the deepest kosher infrastructure outside New York, with 135-plus kosher establishments concentrated around 41st Street in Miami Beach and Harding Avenue in Surfside, plus an actual kosher hotel, The Altair in Bay Harbor. The honest tradeoff: Orlando gives you room, short lines, and Shabbos meals you cook in your own villa kitchen. Miami hands you everything ready-made — and a line for all of it. Choose based on whether your family's idea of vacation includes a grocery run.

If you'd rather someone else run the kitchen, the organized-program market has never been bigger. Four names dominate the 2027 conversation:

• Panama Yeshiva Week 2027 — the one with confirmed dates: January 21-31, 2027, at the Renaissance Panama City under SKO supervision, with a group round-trip fare from JFK of $699. Panama itself is a sleeper: roughly 15,000 Jews, 40-plus certified kosher restaurants, five Orthodox shuls with daily minyanim, and a tourism board that publishes an official kosher page.
• Atlantis "Yeshiva Break in Paradise" (Bahamas) — the resort's own annual program. The 2025 edition ran January 12-February 5 with an ORB-certified pop-up kosher restaurant at The Coral, pre-reserved Shabbat meals, and a 30 percent package discount. Expected to return for 2027; dates unannounced. Nearby, Grand Hyatt Baha Mar keeps kosher year-round (Cinko, the Knosh truck) plus Chabad minyanim.
• Punta Cana — Elite Kosher Travel ran an all-inclusive kosher program at the Barceló Bávaro Palace January 15-25, 2026, with Zusha performing. Expected to return; 2027 dates unannounced.
• SLS Playa Mujeres / LIORA (Riviera Maya) — this all-inclusive launched LIORA kosher dining under Rabbi Nigri and drew 100-plus frum families for yeshiva week 2026. Expected to return.

One thing generic travel sites never mention: the hashgacha — the kosher certification — differs by program (SKO in Panama, ORB at Atlantis), and families hold different standards. Not every family wants a flight. YeshivaMidwinter at Kalahari in the Poconos — the largest indoor waterpark in the US — ran three sessions across January 18-February 4, 2026, with kosher meals on-site and an Avraham Fried concert; expected to return for 2027. Nearby, Camelback and Shawnee host ski-plus-Shabbos programs, and Pocono Kosher has offered Montage lift tickets around $20.

Further down the budget ladder, the numbers get almost suspicious:

• Pigeon Forge, TN — cabins around $100 a night in January, the Smokies are free, and it's under a 12-hour drive from the Northeast.
• Savannah, GA — flights around $200, with kosher food arranged through the BBJ shul.
• Washington, DC — the Smithsonians cost nothing and the kosher infrastructure is solid.
• Denver — $150-350 flights and rentals inside the eruv (the boundary that permits carrying outdoors on Shabbos).

The top drivable pick is the Kalahari waterpark in the Poconos.

The range is enormous. At the top, families report spending $4,000-$6,000 just for a Shabbos in Florida at peak. A kosher cruise adds about $2,150 per couple per week in kosher-program fees on top of the fare, plus $455 per child. Panama's package bundles $699 round-trip JFK airfare. At the bottom, a Pigeon Forge cabin runs about $100 a night with free national park access. Whatever you pick, budget for the kosher premium — it's real everywhere.

Drive, don't fly, and dodge the peak Sundays. Pigeon Forge cabins run about $100 a night in January with the Smokies free next door. Washington, DC pairs free Smithsonians with solid kosher food.
