The world's original Ghetto — history floating on water
Venice holds a unique place in Jewish history — the word 'ghetto' originated here in 1516. Today, the Jewish quarter is a peaceful area with five historic synagogues, a Jewish museum, and a small but active community. The famous Gam Gam restaurant serves kosher meals steps from the train station, and Chabad offers Shabbat hospitality. Venice itself is one of the most breathtaking cities on earth — every canal, bridge, and piazza is a work of art.
